Intro to Visible Mending

Catherine Karp is a former art teacher who loves textiles and hand stitching techniques. She has been sewing since she was very young and loves sharing her knowledge and experience. She teaches visible mending and Sashiko classes. Mending is about reducing waste, embracing creativity and fostering a culture of reuse.

Learn the basics of visible mending. Beginners welcome. I will teach 5 or 6 basic stitches which can be used to mend any kind of textile. You can make a small sampler using these stitches. Bring items that need repair with you so you can get started on a repair using the stitches and techniques I will be teaching. All materials are supplied. Get a jump start on renewing and refreshing beloved textiles. The materials fee includes a box filled with everything you need to work at home (needles, threads, swatches of fabric, and many more materials).

The materials fee for this class is $15. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid once, directly to the instructor at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts payments in cash or through Venmo.

Needles, threads, needle threaders, fabric scraps, fabric glue, pins, fabric markers, books for reference, and more things.

Projects to mend. Clothing, any textile including a tote bag, a tablecloth or dishcloth, pillows, stuffed animals, etc.

Students must be 12 years old or older. Any student under 18 years of age must be accompanied by and under the direct supervision of a responsible adult.
