Kim is a learning experience designer, maker, educator, and researcher focused on maker-centered learning contexts and project-based STEAM education. She leverages co-design and design thinking to catalyze learning design innovation; spent the past decade leading CAST’s design and development of interactive learning environments, tools, and experiences that expand learning opportunities for all individuals through UDL.
Simone Nemes holds an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. She is a multidisciplinary illustrator, sculptor, and designer. Her work combines absurdity, nostalgia and kitsch to create animal/toy dream creatures and interactive installations. She also designs and sews textiles and is Assistant Shop Lead in the Fiber Arts shop at A2.
Come and learn to combine sewing and electronics in fun ways. You will learn about simple circuits, the basics of hand sewing using the blanket stitch, and then create a simple plushie monster with light-up features. There will be plenty to learn and apply to future projects of your own — more light-up plushies, applications to bags, hats, pockets, upcycling projects, and beyond! Materials will be provided.
There is no materials fee for this class.

Fabric, stuffing, embellishments, sewing tools, and circuitry components.

No experience or skills required.
Students must be 12 years old. Students under 18 must attend with an adult or legal guardian.
Skill: Must be comfortable holding a needle and sewing by hand. Some fine motor skills, like threading a needle, will be necessary. The use of both hands at times may be necessary. To discuss any needed accommodations, contact us through Eventbrite's contact the organiser feature.
