At just 16yr, Canadian pianist Sophia Liu is emerging as one of the most compelling pianists of her generation. Liu’s "phenomenal virtuosity" (Bachtrack), coupled with her "poise and authority" (Boston Musical Intelligencer) and dynamic interpretations have captivated and mesmerized audiences worldwide. Studying with Dang Thai Son since age 7, she already made her debut with the Cleveland Orchestra, received First Prizes at the Ettlingen, and the Thomas & Evon Cooper International Competitions, released her debut album, and appeared at festivals and prestigious venues worldwide. In 2025/26, Sophia Liu has been invited to perform in Berlin, Lyon, Lille, Musashino, Nagoya, Seoul, Minneapolis, Portland, and with Japan’s NHK Symphony Orchestra, among others. Intermusica, one of the world’s major artist managements, has signed her up in early 2025 as her general manager.
Sophia will return to the 2025 Summer Concert Series at NEC on Friday 8/15, 7:30 pm at Williams Hall. Free Admission. Suggested donation $10 at door. Age 6 and under not admitted.
