We will be running a standard KCMR Summer Series race with POINTS and PRIZES. This event will include 2 practice rounds, 5 Qualifying rounds (or MORE), and a MAIN event (bracket/letter/ladder) Top 3 pilots from each class will receive medals/trophies!
We will ALSO be running the FINALS after the race. When the usual “mains” conclude and the current Summer Series points have been updated, the resulting “top 6” in each class will be invited to participate in a Championship Chase-the-Ace Showcase. The top pilots from each class will receive a coveted KCMR Summer Series Champions trophy!
Standard MultiGP racing rules apply. 2min heats. Qualifying format based on your “Top 3 consecutive” laps. 3 lap main races. Wholeshot rule is engaged. However, in KC we keep it spicy and the IRONMAN rule is DISENGAGED.
Although KCMR traditionally runs a “Letter” main or “Bracket” main, all racing formats are subject to change at a moment's notice.
Bring tents, tables, chairs, chargers, and anything else you need to bring to stay comfortable outdoors for 8+ hours. Power is available around the parking area. Generators are allowed. Restrooms will be in the BARN, just a short walk from the field! Spectating is FREE and is always welcomed. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to any of the KCMR officers!
Please consider committing to come early for Set-Up or plan to stay after the race for Tear-Down. It's A LOT of work and we can't do this without you guys!
This event will take place at KCMR's current home field location in Bonner Springs, KS. Out by Kansas Speedway and the LEGENDS shopping center.
634 N 126th St, Bonner Springs, KS 66012
In 2019, The Agriculture Center and Hall of Fame agreed to house our field on their beautiful 140+ acre property! This space provides plenty of amenities we have sought to provide our members including a private gate entrance and proper landscaping. Consider stopping by the museum or checking out one of their many family friendly events and activities!
There should be access at the northern gate this season, so drive through the pay stations for either Renfest or Azura Amphitheater. If the gate is locked (or there is an event at the amphitheater/Renfest) you are still able to drive the "long way" through the Museum of Farming's gate. It is located in the south end of the museum parking lot. This entrance will take you through the museum's property and around to our space behind the barn and in the back. Look for the power poles! The International Lineman Rodeo has their competition ground here as well, and we will be just east of their poles. Ask any member for the code if the gate is locked.

All pilots MUST provide their name, pilot handle, admission fees and AMA status info. We randomly require pilots to pass a props-off tech inspection during check-in. This process will be carried out by the race director before the race begins.
Pilots who have an "Active" AMA membership, as well as pilots who compete nationally, will typically be exempt from tech inspections. These pilots should request power level or channel checks at their own necessity.
Other pilots may be required to demonstrate that their drones are transmitting on the proper channel and at the correct power level. We also check pilots for proper failsafe settings. (If you turn off your transmitter during flight, your drone should turn off as well) KCMR requires pilots to remove all props during this inspection, for safety.
MultiGP requires ALL pilots to obtain an active AMA membership for insurance purposes to enter races. KCMR strongly recommends that our pilots follow suit at our home race, however, this membership is not required.
We will be using RACEBAND and FATSHARK channels for this event. The frequencies being used are as follows:
R1 - 5658
R2 - 5695
F2 - 5760
F4 - 5800
R7 - 5880
R8 - 5917
DJI (digital) pilots should plan to fly on DJI 6 and DJI 7. Despite what MultiGP will assign you, this will be resolved during Check-In
We require all VTXs to be Raceband and FatShark compliant. All VTX's will be required to run at 25mW. Please come prepared to change your VTX and/or the channel/band of your VTX as needed for each race. All channels will be verified during Check-In.
We require all drones remain on the assigned frequency during the entire event. All drones must remain unplugged in the pits unless approved by a KCMR officer. SAFETY FIRST! Assume MultiGP assigned channels are accurate, but frequencies are subject to change at a moment's notice. Let a KCMR officer know if you must change your channel mid-event.
It is our mission to welcome new fliers, teach drone safety, and hold events that invite the community to participate and/or observe the fascinating world of FPV multi-rotor racing and freestyle flying.
KCMR's RACING classes are as follows:
NOVICE CLASS
For “beginning” pilots who are ready to fly a track, and compete against other pilots for a podium spot. This class will feature its own shorter / more simplified route within the full Sport/Pro track. All gates and flags (within this simplified course) will be required and the timing system will be ACTIVE.
SPORT CLASS
For the more intermediate pilots, who are ready for the FULL drone racing experience. This class will feature the entire course as it is set-up. This class will include all pilots who are ready to compete against other Sport class pilots for a podium spot. Once a Sport class pilot wins 3 races, he or she will be considered advanced enough and will be expected to jump into the Pro class.
PRO CLASS
For the fastest of the fastest pilots in the club, and the country, and even the WORLD. These pilots must have finished 1st in 3 KCMR races, or qualified into any larger national event (MultiGP, DRL, etc.) This class will also compete on the full track, and compete for a podium spot with other Pro pilots.
BEGINNERS please don’t be intimidated! You, too, will have access to the track just the same as any pilot, but for this level of competition, you will only be required to go through the start/finish gate. All other gates and flags are optional. These pilots can use the race to simply practice flying at their own speed, or go fly backflips by the trees!. Use this class to practice flying and getting the feel of what a race track is like. Please use this class safely, and DO NOT fly the obstacles in reverse.
Beginners, Please sign up in the Novice class and let the race director know if you will be planning on flying at this level
All pilots, please make sure to join the event on MultiGP. This will assign you a video frequency for the event. Classes will be handled with the race director in the "Check-In" portion of the race, on the day of the event. Please come prepared!
Points will be awarded to each pilot depending on their final results. The top pilots from each class will be invited to a championship showdown at the end of the series!
1st - 15 points
2nd - 12 points
3rd - 10 points
4th - 8 points
5th - 6 points
6th - 4 points
7th - 2 points
8th and UP - 1 point
Current point standings will be posted on the Facebook page along with the race results sometime after the event ends.
The "FINALS" will consist of a full summer series race, with points and awards. These results will mark the end of the KCMR Summer series and points will be accumulated.
At the end of the “season”, the top 6 pilots (from each class) with the most points will be entered into a special "Chase the Ace" showcase.
We will then know who has what it takes to be named the fastest pilots in KC! Trophies will be awarded to the #1 finalist from each class. (MUST be present on finals night to enter showcase) To clarify, We will still run a race as usual. At the end of the last race, we will add up all Summer Series points and run a Championship Chase-the-ace Showcase consisting of the top 6 pilots from each class. Winners from each class will receive the 2023 Championship Cup.
You MUST be present at the end of the last race to be selected for the Finals. If someone is not present, we will continue down the "list" until all 6 spots are filled.
Ask a KCMR member if you have any questions, and GOOD LUCK PILOTS!
