Boiseko Euskal jaietara etorri zara eta Euskaraz hitzegiteko gogoz zaude? Zatoz gurekin Mintzodromora!
Are you in Boise, Idaho for the Basque festival and eager to speak and practice your Euskara? Join us at the "Mintzodromo"!
Zer da “Mintzodromoa”?
"Mintzodromoa" is a Basque word that refers to an informal language-speaking event designed to encourage people to practice speaking Euskara (the Basque language) in a relaxed and social setting.
"Mintzo" or "mintza" = to speak or speech (from the verb mintzatu, "to speak")
"-dromoa" = suffix borrowed from Greek dromos meaning "place to run" or "track", used metaphorically here as a "place" for speaking
So, "Mintzodromoa" roughly means "a place or event to speak (Basque)".
What happens at a Mintzodromoa?
People sit in small groups, usually 3–5 people. Each group includes at least one fluent speaker who helps guide the conversation. The group discusses simple, everyday topics — like travel, food, or hobbies. After a set amount of time, groups rotate or move on to a new topic.
It’s casual, social, and meant to help learners feel more confident using the language in real life!
We, as NABO Euskara, will be hosting a "Mintzodromoa" at the Zortziak Bat International Symptosium on the Basque Diaspora and Cultural Expressions.
Join us for informal Euskara conversation at Boise State University in the Micron Business and Economics Building in Room 1209 on:
