In this hands-on, 2-hour Creating Animal Masks workshop, kids ages 8–13 will dive into the imaginative world of mask-making while learning the basics of felting and creative construction. Starting with a pre-made cardboard cat mask, students will transform their base into the animal or mythical creature of their choice—customizing it with added features like ears, horns, snouts, or whiskers using cardboard, felt, fur, and other materials. Along the way, they’ll develop crafting skills, practice creative problem-solving, and bring their unique vision to life with colors, textures, and final decorative touches. This session is a great opportunity for kids to explore their creativity, learn new techniques, and walk away with a mask that’s entirely their own.
All supplies provided. Optional to bring:
- Layered clothing (suitable for paint and similar messy materials)
- Spill-proof water bottle
- Non-messy snack, if needed
About your instructor:
Roxanne Cheldelin discovered her passion for art and creativity later in life while raising her three children, finding inspiration through spirituality and meditation. Her artistic journey began with sketching and inkwork, eventually leading her to create coloring products now featured in the Catalyst Arts Collaborative gift shop. Drawing from cherished childhood memories of coloring with family, Roxanne values creativity as a powerful way to foster connection and community. As the assistant to the director at Catalyst Arts Collaborative, she is dedicated to nurturing artistic expression in others, especially children, believing that creativity is a vital tool for self-discovery and meaningful connections.
Safety Notes:
- We use hot glue guns and use safety tips and tools to avoid getting the glue directly onto the hands
- We remind students to handle the hot glue gun carefully
