Block Printing an Exquisite Corpse

In this workshop participants will carve and print their own "exquisite corpse” using block printing techniques. Traditionally an exquisite corpse is made by three different artists each creating either a head, torso, or legs that come together to create an imagined creature. In this case, each person will create blocks in sets of three- a head, a torso, and legs, and then share them with the group to create a variety of different creatures. Everyone will learn how to carve, ink, and print their blocks onto both paper and textiles by hand and on a press. All materials will be provided and participants will leave with their own carving tool, blocks, and printed shirt with their favorite “exquisite corpse” combination.
