Every winter, thousands of volunteers across the Americas take part in the Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC)—a tradition that began in 1900 as an alternative to the holiday “side hunts.” Instead of hunting birds, conservationists began counting them—turning the event into one of the world’s longest-running community science projects.

Now, more than a century later, your participation helps track bird populations, guide conservation efforts, and connect people with the wonder of the natural world.
