TLDR/Cliff notes:
Meetup:
Terrible Herbst Chevron
12325 NV-160, Las Vegas, NV 89445
Trail: Wilson Tank Trail
Rated: 2-3/10
Stock Friendly? Not recommended unless you're ok with the sound of scraping. Wilsons Tank Trail has some roller coasters that require a small lift typically to clear. Stock vehicle make it no problem, but you will hit your OEM skids (if you have any).
Tires? Trail/All-terrains at a MINIMUM. People tend to "fall asleep" and take the trail as being easy - and about 3 seconds later they get a flat. Due to excessive/heavy use, there are constantly loose rocks that are jagged and WILL get your sidewall if you dont respect the trail and "take it easy". Please dont have street tires/radials.
Full-Size Friendly? Yes
Desert Pin-stripping? No
Doggo/Family Friendly? Yes - but please be aware of your environment. We're coming from an adult-friendly location to an off-road trail run. If you have sensitive ears to the occasional foul language, this might not be the run for the little ones. Please dont expect others to tailor their language and behavior to you. We ask people to be responsible, respectful and sober.
Frequency: GMRS 15 (462.550) with GMRS 5 (462.662) as back-up since about 2-3 other trails will be running and converging on the Pioneer Saloon as well
OK folks - an HOUR after the last raffle winner is called out, this trail will be kicking off. While hosted by "SNOT", please realize this is a public/all-welcome run and part of the GoToplessLV series of trail runs after the event, so ALL are welcome, regardless of group affiliation. As per our STANDARD set of SNOT trailing things -
1) all makes and models welcome, regardless of your ability to remove your (cars) top or not!
2) YOU are responsible for your own actions. We are coming from an event where people could be going into the Casino and drinking, etc. Anyone showing up clearly over the legal limit or being a risk to themselves or the group will be asked NOT to join, and we'll work with you to secure a SAFE ride home. Please be smart. If you had a little TOO much fun at the Silverton for the event, awesome! But let's sit this one out and not create a news event for the wrong reasons.
3) You are responsible for knowing your rig and having the means to change a tire if needed, ability to air-up/air-down (typically we can always assist here) and ability to communicate (radio - again we can assist). Basically
.
Leading the trail will be SNOT modmins Joey P. and Amy C. Joey is in a 4xe anniversary edition, Amy is in a red wrangler. They will meet up with everyone at the Terrible Herbst Chevron located on Blue Diamond Rd and Red Rock Canyon Rd (the last gas station before you go over the hump to Pahrump).
.
One hour AFTER the last raffle winner is called is roll-out. We're going to have to play this a bit loose as we dont have a specific time. Raffle winners start being announced at 1pm. so we anticipate this kicking off about 3pm or so, again, playing it flexible so please be patient with that.
.
Meet up will be at the parking lot AWAY from the gas pumps, please respect the business. There is a LARGE parking area with tables off to the side, please park there. We will have a drivers meeting to cover all of the above (radio frequency, make sure people can air up/down, loan radios if needed, etc). From the Chevron we will go down the road about 1/2 a mile backtracking to Eagle Ranch Rd, where we will air down.
.
Immediately starting the trail is a few miles of "rollercoaster" (series of long ups and down hill climbs and decents) with two "lanes". The left lane (in the direction we're traveling) has a bit more fun/difficulty - they run parallel and you can take whatever track is best. At the base of Wilsons Tank Trail (where the horse troughs are) is a small hill climb where we encourage 4Lo and spacing going up. At the top of the "peak" will be a break for pics, etc.
.
After break its a quick/easy jaunt down to Cottonwood Trail and then proceeding to Pioneer Saloon where we will join the other 2-3 runs that are converging there. Pioneer Saloon will be air up/down and end of the run, you're on your own from there. Please respect their lot and park accordingly - lets not burn the place down with excessive dust and asshattery. People live in Goodsprings (Pioneer Saloon), so lets not upset the locals by making a lot of dust, running around with lights all flashing, honking/revving, etc.
