Historic Blountville Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Historic Blountville will be holding its annual Christmas Tree Lighting on December 11th at 6:00pm. The backdrop of this picturesque event will be the Historic Sullivan County Courthouse. The theme "One Special Town...Two Special Trees."

There is a new Christmas tree this year, replacing the massive 50' tree that was planted in 2005. It needed to be removed to prevent any hazard to the Historic Sullivan County Courthouse. The new tree for the rising generation of young and seasoned citizens will be lit by Elizabeth Johnson, the 2024 Youth Fundraiser of the Year for Second Harvest Foodbank of Northeast Tennessee.

Beginning in 2016 a new tradition was born when the Sullivan County Department of Archives and Tourism partnered with Hope of Victims Advocacy Group. The second special tree will be lit in remembrance of lives lost to violence. The Men's Appalachian Express Chorus will set the mood for this Hallmark Scene by singing Christmas Carols.
