National Radio Centre: build your own FM radio

The Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) invites families to join the National Radio Centre at Bletchley Park for a fun and hands-on workshop where they can learn more about radio and electronics.

There will be two identical workshops on the day:

Workshop 1: 09.45 until 12.15

Workshop 2: 13.00 until 15.30

The aim of this workshop is to allow young people between the ages of 12-18 years old to enjoy learning a little about radio and electronics by building a VHF FM Broadcast Receiver, involving the use of some simple tools.

There will be a short briefing to provide some background about wireless communications, radio reception, amateur radio and electronic construction. Participants will build a VHF FM Broadcast Receiver kit. This will include using a printed circuit board, selecting components, soldering them in place and testing the circuit.

Attendees will also be able to visit the RSGB National Radio Centre to learn more about the history of radio communications and to see a modern amateur radio station in operation.

£11 per participant aged 12-18.

Attendees aged 16 and under must be always accompanied by a responsible adult. One adult accompanying an attendee aged 16 and under will receive free admission to Bletchley Park.
