[𝗡𝗟] Van 8 tot 10 augustus wordt het voormalige restaurant 'Fishbone', een ruimte die ooit deel uitmaakte van de Zeebrugse visveiling, de uitvalsbasis van Linda Jasmin Mayer. In haar installaties onderzoekt de kunstenaar onderwerpen als de wisselwerking tussen mens en natuur, het plankton en de zee, licht en duisternis, magie of illusie. Maskers, sculpturen in glas, fotografische prints, grafisch drukwerk, video en sound geven een nieuwe en kleurrijke blik op wat zich onder het duistere wateroppervlak van onze Noordzee afspeelt.
Tijdens het tentoonstellingsweekend is ook ruimte voor ontmoeting en uitwisseling, onder andere op zondagochtend wanneer de kunstenaar in gesprek gaat met 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗘𝘀𝗸𝗲, die als doctoraatstudent betrokken is bij VLIZ en de effecten van veranderende omgevingsomstandigheden en extreme klimaatgebeurtenissen bestudeert op fyto- en zoöplankton in de Noordzee. En met 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝘀 𝗞𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗸𝗵𝗼𝗳, expert in mariene en kustbiodiversiteit, waarbij zijn huidige onderzoeksinteresses gericht zijn op het bestuderen van de ongewervelde gemeenschappen op de Belgische offshore windturbines. [𝗘𝗡] From August 8 to 10, the former “Fishbone” restaurant, once part of the Zeebrugge fish auction, will serve as the creative hub for artist Linda Jasmin Mayer. Through her installations, she explores themes such as the interplay between humanity and nature, plankton and the sea, light and darkness, and the boundary between magic and illusion. Masks, glass sculptures, photographic prints, digital sketches, graphic works, video, and sound create a vibrant, innovative perspective on the hidden world beneath the North Sea’s enigmatic surface.
The exhibition weekend also offers opportunities for connection and dialogue. On Sunday morning, Linda Jasmin Mayer will engage in conversation with 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗘𝘀𝗸𝗲, a PhD student affiliated with VLIZ, whose research examines the impact of changing environmental conditions and extreme climate events on phyto- and zooplankton in the North Sea. Joining them is 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝘀 𝗞𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗸𝗵𝗼𝗳, an expert in marine and coastal biodiversity, whose current work focuses on invertebrate communities around Belgian offshore wind turbines.
