Virginia Tech Sustainable Transportation will host a three-day League Cycling Instructor (LCI) seminar from Friday, May 30, through Sunday, June 1, in Blacksburg. The nationally recognized seminar is a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about cycling to become certified bike safety educators through the League of American Bicyclists.
Participants will be trained using the League’s Smart Cycling curriculum, which prepares instructors to teach safe, confident cycling to people of all ages and experience levels. Topics include youth riding, riding legally with traffic, motorist education, bike handling skills, group riding, and more.
The seminar will be led by League Cycling Coach Diana Hildebrand, the education and outreach manager at Bike Cleveland. Hildebrand has taught bike education since 2019 and was named the League’s 2024 Gail and Jim Spann Educator of the Year. She is known for her inclusive, engaging teaching style that empowers communities to embrace cycling as a practical and enjoyable way to get around.
By completing the seminar, participants will join a nationwide network of nearly 7,000 certified League Cycling Instructors, gaining access to exclusive teaching materials, general liability insurance coverage through the League, and the ability to teach Smart Cycling classes to adults and children alike.

Completion of the Smart Cycling Complete course
Individual or family membership with the League of American Bicyclists ($50/year)
