The Grand Junction River Hawks, the newest Tier II junior hockey team in the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC), will host a community open house this Saturday, July 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at River City Sportplex. The event aims to introduce the team to the community and highlight the need for local host families (billets) for the upcoming 2025–26 season.
The event is FREE and open to the public, featuring a night of food, games, giveaways, and ice skating for the whole family at River City Sportplex. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., guests can enjoy food, games, and activities for all ages. At 6:40 p.m., the action moves to the ice for a free public skate session—available to the first 150 participants. NCDC River Hawks staff will be on hand to share details about the billet program, connect with interested families, and explain how to get involved.

So what is a billet family and why do we need them?
Billet families play a vital role in supporting junior hockey players, offering them a home away from home while they pursue a higher level of hockey. The River Hawks are looking for local families interested in becoming part of the team’s extended family and helping shape the future of these young athletes. Find more info on our website:
