Johan Stenslie, a native of Mandan, ND, is currently residing in Bergen, Norway, where he works as a professional genealogist. He will be the featured speaker on Wednesday, August 13, at 6:30pm, at the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library in Meeting Room A.
Stenslie’s presentation will feature captivating stories about Norwegian immigrant families, live music performances related to the Norwegian-American experience, and valuable research tips for tracing your family history. A Q&A session will follow.
This Crossings 200 (crossings.norwegianamerican.com) event is co-sponsored by the Sons of Norway Sverdrup Lodge (sofnbismarck.com) and the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library. It is free and open to the public.
The year 2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the first organized Norwegian immigration to North America. Crossings 200 commemorates two centuries of organized Norwegian migration to North America, celebrating the strong ties between Norway, the United States, and Canada. It is a time to reflect on what it means to take significant risks and exchange one home for another, as well as to gain a deeper understanding of the movement of people that continues worldwide today.
Whether or not you have Norwegian roots, we invite you to join us and learn more!
