As I sit here this evening quietly reflecting, my thoughts are with the thousands of children who will receive their GCSE results tomorrow and their parents (or whoever looks after them).
Some will be elated, they've done superbly and will happily move onto their chosen path in September – THAT’S GREAT!
Some will be disappointed; they will regret not putting in the effort and will be annoyed, but OK– ALRIGHT... LEARN FROM THE FEELING!
Some, however, will be crippled with anxiety. They will quake with fear. They will vomit through nerves. They’ll get headaches, tummy aches and cold sweats. They will be DEVESTATED and want to turn back the clock, not knowing what to do next. Their loved ones will not know what to do with them or how to support them.
An adult can usually rationalise fear. Their brains have developed to such a point where they can usually push through it. It’s called experience. Maturity.
A child cannot do this. Most young brains have not developed to a point where they can rationalise. They will not be able to tell the difference between reality and perception. They need our help.
