Specialty Melting, Refining and Casting — A Practical Training Seminar

About the Program
This two-and-a-half-day seminar provides an overview of melting, refining, and solidification in stainless and specialty steel mills and foundries. The program will explore the fundamentals of specialty steelmaking technology, market applications of products, material selection, alloy chemistry, process cycles and safety. In addition, the seminar will cover the use of energy inputs, induction furnace steelmaking, electric arc furnace melting and fundamentals of steel refining: degassing, desulfurization, decarburization, vacuum oxygen decarburization, refractories, ingot casting and remelting. The conference will end with an expert roundtable, a plant tour of University of Alabama Birmingham Metallurgical Department and reception with an open forum to discuss questions and challenges.

Induction and electric arc furnace operators, maintenance personnel, foundry meltshop managers, engineers, metallurgists, students, and entry-level personnel who need an introduction to stainless and specialty steel melting, refining, ingot casting, and remelting.
