Mohammad Ali Naquvi has been a Muslim community activist in the tri-state area for over 20 years. His organizing work was instrumental in sparking a federal lawsuit which brought diverse Muslim communities together against NYPD spying on mosques in NJ, and resulted in a $1 million settlement for plaintiffs and attorneys. He is also Founder and Advocacy Director of Husayn Center for Social Justice, a Muslim-run social services and advocacy center for the working class residents of Trenton, NJ, and most recently co-founded the American Muslim Bar Association (AMBA), a community-oriented legal organization which centers Shi’a Muslims. And as a convener of Shias for Zohran, he brought together the Shi’a community across the country to support the historic Mamdani mayoral campaign in NYC over the past year.
Fahd Ahmed came from Pakistan as an undocumented, working-class immigrant and became active with DRUM – Desis Rising Up & Moving in 2000 after his own family members faced deportation and were targeted through the War on Drugs. Today, he serves as DRUM’s Executive Director, leading an organization that builds the leadership and power of thousands of low-income South Asian and Indo-Caribbean immigrants to drive social and policy change across immigrant rights, education, racial justice, housing, and workers’ rights. In recent times, DRUM played a lead role in fighting off Amazon HQ2, winning $2.1 billion for the Excluded Workers Fund and $2.4 billion for rent relief during the pandemic, standing for justice with families of those killed or abused by the NYPD. And DRUM Beats was one of the five "Day One" endorsing organizations for NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and won large numbers of the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean votes.
