More about 💛 Lisa:
Lisa has a wealth of experience of Arabic dance and has performed as both a troupe and a solo performer. She has performed at several weddings, including both Turkish and Arabic, restaurants, parties, festivals, concerts and several charity and corporate events. In 2005, she started organising events with Terri Hardy. Terri was the first to host Egyptian dancers and teachers in the UK, who were Aida Noor and Medhat Fahmy, former dancers of the world-famous Mahmood Reda troupe.
Lisa not only studied dance but also learned classical Arabic language and holds a Birmingham Brasshouse language school certificate in it. Her language skills help her to understand and interpret the intricacies of Arabic music. She has been fortunate enough to perform with some of the great Egyptian musicians such as Ibrahim el Minyawi, Medhat Shaheen, Sheikh Taha and Joseph, who were fundamental to belly dance as we as western dancers know it today.
Lisa first embarked on belly dancing whilst watching Quincy, MD, when an episode featured a belly dance class, who would have thought her dream of becoming a scientist and an unknown passion for dance would ever align and lead to a fascination with belly dancing.
Lisa started dancing when she discovered dance classes run at Birmingham Hippodrome’s Dance Exchange and has been hooked ever since. Despite specialising in the Egyptian styles, she uses many influences from other dances such as Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Jazz, Samba and Salsa to help create her own mainly improvised style.
A keen event organiser herself, she was the organiser of BAMBA’s belly dance festival and co-organiser of Birmingham’s first international belly dance festival in 2015. She organises many charity events, including The Sunshine Orphanage in Luxor, Cancer Research, Kidney Research, Acorn’s Children’s Trust, Get Ahead, The Dean Field Foundation, Endometriosis UK and currently 4trauma4patients; to date has helped raise £25,000 for the various charities. She’s also just happy helping where she can enrich the lives of others.
