Going Postal - Directed by Shannon McMullan
8th - 11th April 2026
Shannon has directed the comedy Nell Gwynn for Neston Players and the decidedly less comic Romeo and Juliet for Hillbark players this June.
Based on the book by Terry Pratchett, Going Postal is the story of a conman in a world very much like our own who is tasked with reviving the Ankh Morpork postal service as his community service for well…being a conman. All is not as easy as it seems though as Moist must contend with golems, evil sexy pirates, pin aficionados and letters that will stop at nothing to see themselves delivered. All that and up against the ankh Morpork version of email. And he’s falling in love. Listen, it’s a very busy time for him.
Character List (please note that age and gender are a guide based on the character, audition for whoever you like)
Moist von Lipwig – A dazzling conman caught and forced to turn the post office around as his penance. Charming, charismatic, likeable and devious. Male, 20s-40s
Lord Vetinari – Calm, collected, terrifying, the Patrician of Ankh Morpork. He believes in a one man, one vote government. He is the man, he gets the vote! Male, 40s+
Tolliver Groat – The last of the old guard of postmen, sadly forgotten about before he could be promoted beyond Junior Postman. 60s+
Stanley – A sensitive young man who has a passion for pins and the only fellow postman of Tolliver Groat. 20s, Male
Mr Pump/Anghammarad – Both characters are Golems. In the discworld, Golems are giant creatures baked from clay who are then given a script to follow to do tasks for their owners. A big part of this play is about their ongoing liberation. Mr pump is a former water pump turned parole officer for Moist and Anghammarad is one of the oldest surviving golems, tasked with a 19000 year old message to deliver. Golems in this play will hopefully be represented by puppets! Any age or gender.
Adora Belle Dearheart – a no nonsense fiery woman who heads the Golem Trust and eventually forms a romantic relationship with Moist. 20s-40s Female
Reacher Gilt – Looking like a retired pirate, Reacher has turned being a conman into a legit career, he stole the clacks company from Adora’s father. Eccentric, cruel and hilarious. 30s+ any gender
Drumknott – The faithful servant of Lord Vetinari. 30s+ any gender
Miss Maccalariat – the ferocious office manager at the Post Office. All members of Post Office Staff from the Postmaster downwards live in dread of her. 40s+ Female
Sacharissa Cripslock – The local newshound. A journalist of considerable
talent. Female, any age.
