Bechler Family Trek. Age 8 and up. Must be able to hike 8.5 miles in a day. Easy to Moderate Terrain. Several large waterfalls, and 2 legal hot spring soaks. Point A to Point B trip, shuttles included.
Day will begin with a visit to Old Faithful before hitting the trail.
Once we hit the trail, we will have a 6.5 mile hike to our first camp at Shoshone Meadows. We will take a big lunch break half way in as we wait for Lone Star Geyser, Yellowstone's largest backcountry geyser, to erupt.
On day 2 the group will have the option of either hanging around camp in the morning, or taking in a 5 mile day hike to the Shoshone Geyser Basin to explore the basin and Shoshone Lake some (the largest lake in the Lower 48 without a road to it). We will then climb to our campsite at Douglas Knob. The pack portion of the day is 3 to 4 miles
Day 3 we will drop into the Ferris Fork Canyon where we will visit Twister Falls, Ragged Falls and the Gregg Fork Falls on our way to camp. The camp is within the Ferris Fork thermal area, and offers a large colorful hot spring. Mileage 5 to. 6 miles
Day 4 will be a "break day". It is an easy 1 mile hike from camp to the Ferris Fork Pool (also known as Mr. Bubbles). This allows us to soak and relax all day, take in the sights of the colorful springs.
We will pack up for an easy 1 mile trek to our next campsite at Albright Falls, day 4 is so easy and relaxing it helps prepare you for the rest of the trek.
Day 5 is an easy 4.5 mile hike to our next campsite at Ouzel Falls. The day can begin with an optional 4 mile round trip day hike for one last soak, or resting in camp.
Once on the trail, we will have 2 fords to cross, then we are rewarded with two of Yellowstone's largest and most beautiful waterfalls, Iris and Colonnade.
Day 6 is an easy 5.7 mile hike across the Bechler Meadows to our next campsite at Dunanda Falls. We will have 2 large waterfalls, a hot spring soak and a great view of the Tetons from camp.
Day 7 is our last day, with a 8.5 mile easy and level hike for the most part, with great views of the Tetons along the way as well. Our shuttle will be meeting us at the Bechler Ranger Station.
This is a kid friendly trek, kids ages 8 and over.
