Big Lake Community Food Shelf

Big Lake Community Food Shelf operates as a choice model food shelf, which means clients get to select foods their families eat and know how to prepare. Food shelves have found this model best serves their clients’ needs, and cuts down on wasted food. This consists of a combination of fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, milk, and other perishable and nonperishable items that may be available. How much a client can take depends on his or her family size, and availability.

Every 3rd Monday, anyone who needs a little extra help with their food budget is welcome to come to the Big Lake Lions Park between 3:30 PM through 5:30 PM. A line does tend to form before 3:30. Pull into the back parking lot where a volunteer will check you in, once checked in, you can pick your items that you wish to take home. This visit is an extra and does not affect your regular monthly visit. Items available vary month to month but sometimes have surplus perishables and fresh produce available.
