Battle of Hastings

The annual reenactment of the Battle of Hastings hosted by English Heritage will be taking place on October 11/12 and several hundred reenactors will be recreating life on the battlefield and in the encampment.

Visitors can spend the day the rival Saxon and Norman camps, and see the armourers and weapon makers while they are at work. Watch the falconers as their birds of prey take flight. Walk among the tents where food needs to be prepared, logs to chop into firewood and clothes to mend. Come and experience life in the 11th century.

Children can take up arms and try at archery or join in the sword school. Do not miss the dramatic retelling of the Bayeux Tapestry, and then watch the highlight of the day as the opposing armies of King Harol Godwinson and Duke William of Normandy engage in combat and battle rages.
