L.A. Camerata Artistic Director Marylin Winkle leads a day of workshops exploring music by women composers in the 16th and 17th centuries. Three workshop sessions will be offered, targeting instrumental/vocal disciplines, maximizing opportunities for participation. Proceeds from this event will fund L.A. Camerata's upcoming event, "Madwomen." The cost to participate is $35 per workshop session or $90 for the full day (with snacks and lunch included). The full schedule will be as follows:
10:00-11:30am Strings: Using bows to articulate texts in consort, in addition to reading pieces for strings. Violas da gamba and baroque violin family instruments welcome. This session will be at A=415.
11:30-12:00 Refreshment Break & Exhibition: Light snacks provided. Participants welcome to bring treats to share. Meanwhile, peruse a small exhibit of print editions of music by women composers.
12:00-1:30 Voices & Instruments: We will the first half of our time reading madrigals with instruments colla parte. In the second half of this section, we will read larger concertante works. All voices and instruments welcome. This session will be at A=415.
1:30-2:00 Lunch Break & Exhibition: Assorted sandwiches provided and participants encouraged to contribute treats to share. Meanwhile, peruse a small exhibit of print editions of music by women composers.
2:00-3:30 Soft Winds: Using instruments to articulate texts in consort, in addition to reading pieces for instruments. Recorders and other soft wind family instruments (i.e. traverso) welcome. This session will be at A=440.
