Alexander Lanigan-Palotai is Sub-Organist at Chester Cathedral, where he assists the Organist and Master of the Choristers with the direction of the Cathedral choir and training of the choristers.
He is the principal accompanist for the choir’s services, concerts, and broadcasts. He also regularly performs in the Cathedral’s weekly organ recital series. Alexander conducts Chester Cathedral’s Nave Choir, the longest-running cathedral voluntary choir in the UK.
In addition to weekly services, the choir gives regular concerts and a summer tour each year. In September 2023 the choir collaborated with the Turner Prize-winning artist Elizabeth Price for a performance of a vocal piece exploring the geological history of Britain and the impact of human civilization on it.
Alexander started his musical career as a chorister at Chelmsford Cathedral in 2005 and began learning the organ with Oliver Waterer in 2010. He has subsequently held organ scholarships at Bristol Cathedral, Worcester College, Oxford and Salisbury Cathedral. Alexander graduated with a degree in music from Oxford University in 2018 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists.
