About the event

Let's Chat with Brian Berryman
Join us in a friendly conversation with expert trad and historical flutist!

REGISTRATION IS THROUGH EVENTBRITE. This event will take place on Sunday September 7th at 5 PM (Germany) . The time indicated in the registration information should already be your local time. However, you may prefer to double check on your own .

What attracted me to early music in the first place was the fact that there's something earthy, almost rustic at times in historical flute playing. Even in the highly stylized language of the French Baroque, one can still find a certain naivety that sounds all the more charming when played on a wooden flute.

Allow me to introduce you to Brian Berryman , flutist extraordinaire who traverses between the worlds of trad and classical early music. We will talk about his journey in both the folk and classical/historical flute playing traditions, and hear his take on the connection between the two. It's my great pleasure to also introduce some tracks from his latest CD "Echoes of Edinburgh", featuring both folk and baroque music of Scotland.

In addition, we'll explore those connections between folk and historical WITH YOU so HAVE YOUR FLUTE READY !
Tickets are free to attend live. The replay will be available on my YouTube channel afterwards.

About Brian Berryman
https://www.brianberryman.com
Brian was born into a musical family and was raised in the small town of Liverpool, Nova Scotia, on Canada's east coast. After humble beginnings, joining the the band at the local paper mill at age twelve, he has become one of the most sought after specialists on historical flutes in the current early music scene in Germany.
After completing his Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at the University of Victoria, Canada and a Master's and Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance Practice at Stanford University in California, he studied baroque flute with Wilbert Hazelzet at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Netherlands, completing the "Certificaat Oude Muziek".
Brian appears throughout Europe and on numerous radio and CD recordings with such notable ensembles as The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Barockorchester Stuttgart, Concerto Köln, and the FestspielOrchesterGöttingen(FOG) of the International Handel Festival Göttingen founded by Nicolas McGegan. Brian has held the position of principal flute of the period-instrument orchestra The Hannoversche Hofkapelle since 2006 and can be heard as soloist regularly in their annual (and sold out!) New Year's Eve concert.
With his ensemble La Ricordanza, of whom he is a founding member, he has recorded 5 critically acclaimed CDs. His solo recording, "Crossing the Border" was his first journey into combining the worlds of traditional and baroque music. His second solo CD, "Almost Home", explores his Nova Scotian roots: Together with guitarist Cornelius Bode he presents a programme of traditional Irish and Scottish music, as well as music from Cape Breton on Canada's east coast. In his latest CD "Echoes of Edinburgh" baroque and traditional musicians are brought together to discover and deepen the trad-baroque connection of Scottish music in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Brian can also occasionally be seen playing folk sessions in the Irish pubs of Hanover, but nowhere nearly as often as he would like...
