Excited to announce the next Behind the Mirror concert which takes place on Sunday 21 September at 4pm in the Lady chapel of St Peter’s church, Berkhamsted - an afternoon of romantic music for clarinet trio with Sarah Thurlow (clarinet) and Iain Farrington (piano).
Fanny Mendelssohn’s trio, written for her sister and originally scored for violin cello and piano, is given a new life in a version which bursts with passion and energy, showcasing her incredible skills as a pianist, and which also contains moments of pure lyricism reminding us of her talent for song.
Alongside we play perhaps the greatest work written for clarinet trio by Johannes Brahms, a monumental and emotionally rich piece that mixes intimate fantasy with heart-on-sleeve passion.
“It is as though the instruments were in love with each other.”
And interspersed are six songs from Robert Schumann’s great work Dichterliebe (A Poet’s Love), a collection of nuanced responses to the delicate language of flowers, dreams and fairy tales, which have been especially arranged for this concert and which are filled with love and longing.
