Intensive with Sarah Konner Description:
In order to improvise we have to continually find ourselves in unfamiliar circumstances; or find new ways through the familiar. To improvise in contact: we practice listening through the skin, opening to the unknown, being close without limiting each other‘s freedom, and finding collective play. These practices are ever more needed to navigate the world we are living in. Contact improvisation, if we stay true to the proposition, asks us to find a new way through, every time, together— deepening our listening to notice more, imagine, playfully test our circumstances, and soften expectations.
In this workshop, we will improvise, dance together, and break down physical practices useful to expand possibilities in contact improvisation. Through play and experimentation we will practice functional movement (weight sharing, falling, soft collision, structures) and attend to subtlety to prepare our bodies for agile adaptability as situations become more complex. Both coordination and decision-making are essential, and it happens at the speed of the body. With a light and bright attention to the moment-to-moment now—we expand possibilities we are available to in order to both listen deeply to what is happening and take personal agency in ever fleeting moments.
I will bring readings I love to share and influence our dancing… you can too.
