Adriano Salhab & Forró Xique-Xique

Having conducted extensive research on Brazilian folk festivities since 1996, especially the musical performances (toys) of the Pernambuco Forest region, singer, composer and instrumentalist Adriano Salhab brings his repertoire of viola and Rabeca (fiddle) .

The rabeca is a typically Brazilian instrument and emerged from the persistence of "luthiers," Brazilian folk artisans, using the most diverse resources and materials available, in reproducing the European violin, brought on the caravels along with the Viola Caipira (which, in fact, is Portuguese and maintains its almost original shape to this day).

The name rabeca comes from the Arabic Rebab (an archaic Egyptian monochord) brought to the Iberian Peninsula by the Moors and which later influenced the first European violins. Adriano Salhab & Forró Xique-Xique, in addition to the original repertoire released on the album of the same name in 2023, brings together the finest elements of the classic repertoire of June festivities, comprised of the immortal songbook of Luiz Gonzaga and Jackson do Pandeiro, complemented by research into Pernambuco's festivities: Cirandas, Cavalo Marinhos, Côcos de Roda, and Marchinhas (frevos - foot-dragging), along with a selection of instrumental baião comprising his own songs and classics by Sivuca, Dominguinhos, Hermeto Pascoal, Guerra Peixe, among others.

Groups from Pernambuco's contemporary popular culture research scene are alsoremembered in the Xique-Xique repertoire, such as Mestre Ambrósio, Comadre Florzinha, Sagrama, Quinteto Armorial, among others.

Adriano Salhab and his Forró Xique Xique have toured countries such as Portugal, France,Germany, Lebanon, and Canada. In Brazil, capital cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, and Recife have already hosted Salhab and his quartet, as well as the main stages of the São Paulo city's Forró circuit, including a performance at the City Hall's Christmas Festival (2022) with the participation of Siba and Alessandra Leão. He recently performed his first performance at the charming Casa de Francisca in São Paulo, released the vinyl album "A Rabeca Secreta" at the iconic Teatro Oficina, and debuted on the SESC stage on January 25th (SESC Santo Amaro).
