MRIDHANGAM WORKSHOP with T. Karthik presented by Ra-Ve Cultural Foundation
Join us for an enriching Mridangam workshop led by T. Karthik, a seasoned percussionist, and torchbearer of a prestigious musical lineage.
Karthik is the grandson of Mridangam Vidwan Madurai Late Shri D. Krishna Iyengar and was trained under his maternal uncle Madurai Shri K. Rangarajan from the age of six. He gave his first concert at age ten and has since accompanied renowned vocalists and instrumentalists across India and abroad. A B-High graded artist of All India Radio, Chennai, Karthik continues to perform and teach Mridangam internationally.
This workshop is open to all levels and will be divided into two sessions:
Beginners Level (10:00 AM – 11:00 AM):
Participants will explore: Fundamental fingering techniques for clarity in playing. The importance of rhythm and timing in Carnatic music. An introduction to commonly practiced thalams and their application
Intermediate Level (11:00 AM – 12:00 PM):
For students with prior experience, this session will explore: The search for Bramhalayam (the Cosmic Rhythm) through Mridangam. The role of Naadham (sound resonance) in music and life. Advanced rhythmic patterns.
This is a unique opportunity to deepen your rhythmic understanding and connect with the rich tradition of South Indian percussion.
