The Guard - Live Bluegrass at Treehouse Tavern

The Guard from SW Virginia has making music as a band for almost 30 years. After starting as a pick-up group to play for a party in the area, they have now played over 1,200 shows at a recurring Wednesday night gig at The Coffee Pot Roadhouse in Roanoke, Va. Anyone who’s followed the music of the area will recognize them. At one time the band was made up of veterans who’ve served our great Nation and had over 120 years of combined military service, in the current configuration they still have over 50 years of military service.

Over the years faces and names have changed but this band has kept the sound alive with founding members Bobby Moore (vocals & mandolin, fiddle) and Alan Messenger (vocals & guitar). The current lineup includes Kenny Hamblin (vocals & banjo) and Judy Boitnott (vocals & bass). Over the years they’ve developed a sound that offers straight ahead bluegrass, along with some old country classics, combining great vocals/instrumentals along with an entertaining stage presence.
