Training: Our Person-Centered Response
Course Description
When we think about DEI trainings we often think exclusively about Race, Gender, and Bias trainings. Not represented in these trainings can be growing populations of people who come into contact with the criminal justice system whose differences are less visible.
In this training we’ll discuss Person-Centered Policing, which emphasizes awareness, respect, effective communication, building trust, and de-escalation best practices with additional populations who are often overrepresented in contact with the police.
In this training we will:
• Build upon our cultural competency and responsiveness by discussing additional populations who may benefit from a Person-Centered Response.
• Increase understanding and awareness of different drivers of Poverty.
• We’ll discuss Trauma as both cause and consequence of Poverty.
• Strengthen skills for recognizing and engaging with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health, & co-occurring addictions.
• All this continues to help develop tools and practical strategies for building trust and fostering positive interactions and outcomes.
*We will complete an F6 and return to DPSST for 3 hours of Equity training hours
