BAN invites you to a day of non-violent direct action (NVDA) training — a hands-on workshop grounded in safety, respect, teamwork, and informed decision-making. These core principles have powered some of the most historic and inclusive movements across history.
These are skills you can take into your own groups and campaigns to protect local areas, or use them to join other spaces in the environment movement across the continent.

Across Gumbaynggirr Country — from Nambucca State Forest to the Newry State Forest to — local groups have successfully used their physical presence to defend forests from irreversible damage through NVDA. But behind every effective action is preparation, teamwork, and care.
Each full-day training will cover:
- The history and importance of direct action
- Principles of non-violence and de-escalation
- Roles in actions (many ways to be involved—being arrested is not required)
- Legal information and your rights
- Action planning, security culture, and campaign strategy
- Stories from the frontlines and how to get involved
Whether you want to support on the ground or behind the scenes, this day is about building confidence, connection and capacity for action.
Share around & Get involved!

This training takes place on unceded Gumbaynggirr Country.
We pay deep respect to Gumbaynggirr custodians who have protected this land since time immemorial and continue to resist ongoing colonisation. There can be no environmental justice without First Nations justice.
