Join us for a stunning production of Bizet’s early masterpiece, The Pearl Fishers. Set in ancient Ceylon, the opera tells the poignant story of two friends, Nadir and Zurga, whose bond is tested by their shared love for the beautiful and mysterious priestess, Leïla.
Though just 25 when he composed it, Bizet’s score—praised by Berlioz as “beautiful, expressive, richly coloured, and full of fire”—offers a glimpse of the brilliance to come in Carmen. Dramatic tension and lush melodies rise above the libretto’s limitations to deliver moments of genuine inspiration.
Performed in French with a full cast of principals, chorus, and an 11-piece chamber ensemble. Supertitles in both French and English will be shown.
