• Gemstone Mining Fun: Pan for a dazzling variety of gemstones at our authentic operating sluice. Each bag of mining rough is unique and may contain fluorite, garnet, green quartz, obsidian, peridot, pyrite, rose quartz, smoky quartz, topaz, and more!
Special Homeschool Family Rates (Mondays, June-August, 1:00 pm tour only):
• Parents/Guardians: $16.00 each (Cave Tour Only)
• Students: $13.00 + tax each (Cave Tour AND Pay Dirt Gemstone Bag)

• When are the special homeschool rates available? Every Monday, June through August (excluding holidays), for the 1:00 pm tour only.
• Do we need to pre-register? No, advanced booking is not required for the Monday 1:00 pm homeschool tour. However, these special rates apply only to the 1:00 pm tour on Mondays. All other tours are at regular posted rates.
• Will we have a guided tour? Yes, your family will join the regularly scheduled 1:00 pm guided cave tour.
• What is the cost per student? $13.00 + tax per student, which includes both the cave tour and one Pay Dirt gemstone bag.
• Is there a fee for adults? Yes, the rate for parents/guardians is $16.00 each for the cave tour.
• What about younger siblings? Children ages three and under are admitted free to the cave tour. However, we do not recommend the cave tour for this age group. Please note that backpacks are not permitted in the cave.
• What forms of payment do you accept? We accept cash and all major credit cards.
• Where do we go when we arrive? Please enter the Visitor's Center, where you can purchase your tickets at the ticket window.
• What time should we arrive? We recommend arriving between 12:30 pm and 12:45 pm to ensure you are ready for the 1:00 pm tour. Our staff operates on a fixed schedule and cannot wait for late arrivals. Late arrivals will be charged regular admission rates and may not be able to join the homeschool tour.
• What are our lunch options? Families are welcome to bring their own lunches and enjoy our picnic area with tables under the trees.
• What is the rainy-day policy? Seneca Caverns is open rain or shine! However, the gemstone mining may temporarily close in severe weather conditions like lightning. Please dress appropriately for both the cave tour and outdoor conditions.
• What are the cave conditions?
The cavern temperature is a cool 54ºF (12.2ºC) with high humidity, so jackets or sweatshirts are recommended.
o Please be aware that the cave is not handicap accessible. However, gemstone mining, gift shops, and picnic areas are accessible.
o The depth of the cave tour may vary depending on seasonal precipitation and the level of the Ole Mist'ry River (water table). Please inquire if you have any concerns.
o Some trails inside the cavern are sloping and may be moist, so comfortable walking shoes with good traction are highly recommended.
o Lighting levels inside the cave are low.
o The cave tour is considered moderately strenuous.
o We do not recommend the cave tour for children ages three and under.
