About this Event

QRIT

The Northern Ireland Queer Crit Club

crit // a review of a literary or artistic work or production.

Welcome to the next QRIT! Northern Ireland's informal Queer Crit Club where 3 artists will invite us into their spaces for making and generously open up the floor for discussion about what they are working on. Over the next few months, we hope to have regualr crits with Queer Cultural Practioners from a range of backgrounds: Visual Art, Music, Theatre, Design...etc.

Katya Solomatina

With a strong focus on community engagement and intergenerational storytelling, Katya’s projects merge cutting-edge technology with cultural heritage preservation. Katya has led several interactive community-based projects, including Memory Anchors, Forming Formidable, Memory Fractal, all of which explore the intersection of human emotions, identity, and digital innovation.

Recently Katya has been working on several projects together with Sailortown Regeneration to bring digital innovation to Belfast’s maritime heritage, blending social history and immersive art to enhance storytelling and revitalise community spaces. Katya’s work has been supported by the Arts Council (Digital Evolution), Belfast City Council's City Innovation office (Augment the City, HUB-IN), Maritime Belfast Trust.

Husk Bennett

(he/him), is a Belfast-based visual artist. His practice explores complexities of contemporary human experience engaging at an intersection of media saturation, ultra-modernity, whilst referencing evolving definitions of labour within the contemporary late-stage capitalist landscape. Husk's practice thrives on a tension between the accidental and the intentional; embracing elements of chance and serendipity as sources of inspiration. His approach reflects a critical awareness of the role of agency in artistic creation, acknowledging the interplay between the futility of labour, artistic intention and the ludic nature of the creative process.

His work manifests across disciplines; sculpture, performance, 2d-media and interventional practice.

Kate Morgan

Kate Morgan is from Carlow. She recently completed an MA in Poetry at Queen's University Belfast and was an Ireland Chair of Poetry Student Awardee in 2024. Kate has been published in The Blackbird Anthology, Skylight 47, Púca and Bealtaine Magazine.
