In his 50 years working in the professional theatre, as a playwright, director and teacher, Julian Garner has developed various strategies for helping people discover their innate story-making/story-finding ability. Activate the necessary observational muscles, and master a few easy to use analytical tools, to see potential stories literally everywhere you direct your attention; in personal experiences, of course, but also random images, sounds, happenings, overheard snatches of conversation, even combinations of inanimate objects. Stories seem to magically appear, and soon it becomes impossible not to see story elements popping up wherever you look, just waiting to be organised into meaningful narrative.
We advise workshop participants to see Julianβs performance, The Godmother & Other Legends, the day before the workshop.
The event will run from 10.30 am to around 4.30 pm, with a break for lunch. We recommend bringing a lunch as the nearest cafes are a bit of a trek away! Drinks and snacks included in the price.
