THE TALK
In 2015, the Yeovil site celebrated 100 years of continuous aircraft production, which continues to this day. This lecture summaries the history of Westland bringing the story up to date and looks into what the future may hold for rotorcraft.
THE SPEAKER
Dr Alisdair Wood FRAeS is a serial graduate from the University of Bristol up to an Engineering Doctorate, specialising in HUMS.
Alisdair joined Westland Helicopters (now Leonardo Helicopters) as a Flight Test Engineer and accumulated over 500 hours airborne primarily on prototype helicopters at the forefront of envelope expansion and ‘first offs’ including first flights. Subsequent roles included Project Engineering, Merlin in-service support and leading the In-Service Engineering team. Currently, he leads the company’s safety management system and aviation risk management, along with being a Post Holder for both military and civil products.
Alisdair has been a long-term supporter of the Society, having served on many committees and Boards and chairing the Yeovil Branch. Along with being president, he is a Trustee of the Society.
