Last year I had the pleasure of displaying my rugs at Scott Manor for a week in the month of August. During that week, several of the visitors mentioned that they would be interested in learning how to hook for themselves. We heard you and decided to add a workshop this year.
Supplies:
If you wish to register for the workshop, you must bring your own supplies. I recommend that you visit Deanna Fitzpatrick’s website, at
https://hookingrugs.com/ to find a starter kit such as this one - Sunflower - Rug Hooking Beginner Kit 6" x 6" – Deanne Fitzpatrick Rug Hooking Studio. These are a good choice for your first piece and cost $49.95, plus $14.95 for shipping.
Everything you need to get started is supplied in one of these kits including:
· A hand-drawn pattern on burlap
· All the yarn/wool required for the pattern
· A key to show you where the colors go
· A color picture of the completed rug
· An illustrated set of instructions
An additional 10” hoop will need to be purchased for $7.95
Extras to bring: Folding Lawn Chair and Lunch
We will take a short lunch break at 12:30 pm. There’s no access to a fridge so a cooler bag for your sandwich and drink would be required. For those that choose not to bring lunch, they may purchase tea and oak cakes from the tearoom onsite which is open from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Depending on the weather, we could set up on the veranda, a beautiful outdoor space.
If you already do rug hooking and would like to join us during the workshop days, bring along your own work in progress and join us. I will have a cutter available, however if you want to bring your own, please do.
