Hey parents! Are your kids (ages 10-15) ready to trade screen time for stream time? The Beaver Creek Wetlands Association invites you and your family to an unforgettable outdoor adventure: "Exploring the Underwater World: A Macroinvertebrate Experience!"
Join us on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 10 AM at EJ Nutter Park for a FREE, hands-on journey into the fascinating world beneath the water's surface. We're going creekin' in Little Beaver Creek, which means we'll be turning over rocks, digging in the sand, and using nets to discover the incredible, often unseen, creatures that call the creek home. We're talking macroinvertebrates (think fascinating aquatic insects!), tiny fish, and all sorts of other fascinating creek life.
You'll learn how to identify these amazing critters and, even cooler, find out how scientists use them as a "report card" to determine the health of the creek. It's a hands-on lesson in ecology that's way more fun than any classroom! So, let's see what wonders we can discover together. We promise it'll be a "reel" good time!
Meet at the large shelter house at EJ Nutter Park.
Program leader, Kevin Riley, will give an introductory talk before leading the group on a short hike (0.25-0.5 mi) into Creekside Reserve to access Little Beaver Creek.

Who: Kids ages 10-15 (one parent/responsible adult required to stay).
Cost: Free!
Dress Code: You will get wet and dirty! (Dress with this in mind.) Wear tall rain boots or secure, closed-toed water shoes, sandals like keens (no flip-flops), or old gym shoes you don’t mind to get wet and dirty.
What to Bring: Hat for sun and tick prevention, water bottle, insect repellent, and an adventurous spirit!
