We're so excited to present another year of incredible programming for Beacon Open Studios. Join us at our hub, The Yard, from June 27-29 for an exciting array of performances, including local Dance, Live Art, Music, and even a Broadway singalong.

Every ticket you buy goes straight into the hands of the performers. Not a cent goes to us, because talent deserves to be paid, period. Your support goes straight to the stage. The BOS team is made up of local artists and curators who refuse to let fellow creatives go unnoticed. Beacon Open Studios was built to lift each other up, showcase important works, and inspire our community to connect through art.

Love is an Action 3.0 is the third installment of an ongoing performance series created by choreographer Skyla Schreter. A celebration of raw, real-time collaboration, this one-night-only outdoor event invites audiences into a moment of creative alchemy—where dance and music meet in spontaneous, unscripted exchange.

At its core, Love is an Action is a living, breathing improvisation. Two artistic languages—live music and contemporary dance—unfold in direct conversation, shaped only by a shared sense of structure, intuition, and presence. Audience members are invited not just to observe, but to witness: to be fully present for something rare and unrehearsed.

This year’s performance feature live music by acclaimed Beacon-based artist Jeremy Wilms. Jeremy’s genre-blending, improvisation-driven style draws from jazz fusion, soul, and experimental soundscapes. His past collaborations span from Beyoncé and Bebel Gilberto to jazz legend Chico Hamilton and avant-garde icon Taylor Mac.

They will be in live collaboration with Skyla Schreter Dance, a NYC- and Hudson Valley–based company led by Skyla Schreter, a former dancer with the world-renowned San Francisco Ballet. Now a distinguished choreographic voice in New York, Schreter creates bold, emotionally resonant work that blends ballet, improvisation, and interdisciplinary forms. Her company features a rotating cast of world-class dancers with backgrounds at New York City Ballet, Alvin Ailey, Trisha Brown Dance Company, Twyla Tharp Dance, and beyond.

Presented in the open air at The Yard, with Beacon’s vibrant creative energy as a backdrop, Love is an Action 3.0 offers a rare and intimate glimpse into the spontaneous magic of interdisciplinary performance.

Martin D. Fowler

Martin D. Fowler has composed music underscoring Pulitzer Prize-winning radio from This American Life and other number-one Podcasts, composed ad music for clients like MLB, BMW, Coke, and Spotify, co-produced on tracks for Lil Wayne, Princess Nokia, Aja the Kween, and Arthur Lewis (Freestyle Love Supreme), has had work appear on VH1, VICELAND, and many other media outlets.

Martin has toured the world as a performer in contemporary jazz, alternative pop, and electronic music settings as bassist and electronic soundscaper with artists such as VÉRITÉ, Emel Mathlouthi, PLS.trio, Arthur Moon, Raven Chacon, and others. Martin is also a multi-media artist combining original scoring and abstract visualizations.

Odetta Hartman with LETZ

With a heart-stopping voice & wide- ranging instrumental talent,Odetta Hartman carries cowboy soul into an era where country can clash with computers & bluegrass isn’t afraid of bass.Born & based between downtown Manhattan & the Western Catskills, Odetta's futuristic folk music offers a soundtrack for journeying the Appalachian trail via spaceship - incorporating badass banjos, experimental field recordings and cinematic orchestral arrangements.

When accompanied by Hudson Valley trio, LETZ, original live sets lean into Judaic roots, rhythms and traditions. Conceived as a klezmer ballet by composer and fellow Bard College alum, Perry Foster, this new project has interdisciplinary ambitions to incorporate film, dance & theater.

ILLARI

Illari is a project born from transition, rooted in resilience. Created by Peruvian percussionist Angel Lau after a canceled Fulbright dream, Illari is a personal and musical response to the longing for connection—with home, with ancestry, and with community. Drawing from Afro-Peruvian, Brazilian, Congolese, and jazz traditions, the music is danceable, spiritual, and deeply grounded.

Named after the Quechua word for “sunrise,” Illari carries the energy of new beginnings—an offering of joy, rhythm, and hope in the face of uncertainty. It’s a celebration of movement, memory, and the power of showing up fully.

After a year of sold out shows, Will Reynolds and Jen Malenke host a night of Broadway magic and mayhem! Prepare to be blown away as Broadway performers and incredible local talent sing your favorite show tunes. Plus, there will be surprise guests appearances…direct from Broadway!

Want to sing? Sign up starts 6:30pm and there are limited slots, so be sure to come early to get on the list. Bring your music (in a binder or have a PDF handy) or just come and listen while enjoying The Yard’s trendy bar and delicious food.

Get ready for sing-alongs, Broadway "mad libs," special guests, and unhinged, unrehearsed surprises!

ABOUT YOUR HOSTS:

JENNIFER MALENKE most recently was seen in the feature film “The Father Who Stayed,” by Jeremy Schonfeld, currently in festivals, and has won 8 festival awards. She just got to sing on Aaron Lazar’s new album “The Impossible Dream” that he recorded with many Broadway stars to fight ALS. She was in the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” First National Tour, and was also in “Into the Woods” on Broadway. She’s sung at the White House, the Met Gala (with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo), Carnegie Hall (with Heather Headley)and more with the Broadway Inspirational Voices, with whom she is a proud member, and she is the owner of Broadway Babysitters. Jen has done theatre, concerts, and gigs all over the country, and has worked with some of Broadway and TV’s biggest names. She was a session singer on many films and TV shows in Los Angeles, and she has appeared on “The Voice,” “High School Musical: Get In the Picture,” and “The Power of Music” with Josh Groban, available on YouTube. @jjmalenke

WILL REYNOLDS is an actor, writer, and the recipient of the Fred Ebb Award for musical theater writing with collaborator Eric Price. He has been a songwriter for CENTRAL PARK on Apple TV+/Disney and the Studio Cast Recording of his musical THE VIOLET HOUR ( starring Broadway’s Santino Fontana, Jeremy Jordan, Erika Henningsen, Solea Pfeiffer, and Brandon Uranowitz) has received over 2 million streams. His song “Tavern” was recorded by 6-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald on her album GO BACK HOME.

Will was on the music team for the Broadway productions of WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN and A CHRISTMAS STORY.
