IMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION – Frances Creek/Jacobsens Track
Join Townsville Hike and Explore as we share our love of the outdoors with you, hiking and exploring Frances Creek and a section of the abandoned Jacobsen’s Track, in a remote area of the Paluma Range National Park. Jacobsen’s track is one of the earliest tracks in the Paluma/Mount Spec area which linked Ingham to Ewan, passing close to Hidden Valley.
This hike has been designed to cater for those of average and above fitness levels and capabilities, given the distance and terrain it is not suitable for beginners.
Recently, we hiked the lower and mid reaches of Frances Creek, and were in awe of the stunning canyons, gorges and waterfall formations visible along the way. Two highlights you’ll experience on this adventure is a massive waterfall we named ‘Twin Falls’, and the junction of Frances Creek and Flagstone Creek.
This will be a typical creek line hike, requiring you to get your feet wet and keep your shoes on, so please wear appropriate footwear. There are also at least two spots where we will wade through narrow gorges, with water at roughly waist height.
When we reach Jacobsen’s track, I will show you the original concrete causeway over Frances Creek, and we will pick some bush lemons from trees close to the track.
We will then hike Frances creek back to the starting point, experiencing the wonder of the creek all over again!
FACT: Jacobsen’s track was named after Sigvardt Jacobsen, aka “Sid”. Sid blazed the original trail and grew tobacco in the area, before tragically passing away from dengue fever close to Frances creek in 1905.
