WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
-Why pruning is important for fruit tree health (focused on apples)
-How to select branches to remove
-Practice pruning with proper technique and tools
-How to care for different aged trees (new trees and very old trees)
INSTRUCTOR
Josie Dillon is the Statewide Fruit Outreach Specialist for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension. Josie works with fruit growers and home gardeners by identifying challenges related to growing fruit in Wisconsin and providing outreach through resource development and education.
WHAT TO BRING
-Wear warm clothes and boots and be prepared to be outside walking in deep snow / uneven ground for multiple hours. Snow shoes will be available.
-Pruning tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you'd like.
-Durable gloves. Be prepared to be pruning apple tree branches using hand pruners or saws in potentially cold temperatures.
-Eye protection will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.
-Water bottle. Water and hot tea will be provided.
LODGING
Lodging for the night of February 9 will be available at the Red Cliff Legendary Waters Resort & Casino under room block WTCAC. Ten rooms are held until February 9, so please make your reservations soon. If the room block is full and you'd still like a room, please contact Allissa Stutte (
