Alligator Mike and Yellowhammer present Bobby Rush, a Louisiana native who lived for decades in Chicago, earned the title “King of the Chitlin Circuit” after relocating to Jackson in the early 1980s. Rush’s distinctive “folk funk” style bridged the blues he heard as a youth and modern soul music. His upbeat and often provocative live shows established him as a favorite among southern soul and blues audiences and later brought him international acclaim.

During his renowned stage show Bobby Rush frequently jumps high into the air, arms spread and legs tucked, only to land gracefully and return without a hitch to his dazzling routine. It’s a move you might expect at a contemporary R&B show, but it’s downright shocking when you realize that Rush turned 90 last fall!

Rush is not slowing down; his busy schedule includes headlining European festivals with his band and solo programs at venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center, and he just recorded an album of brand new material, All My Love For You, coming out via his own label Deep Rush Records in collaboration with Nashville-based Thirty Tigers. Over the last several years he’s won a second Grammy, re-recorded his 1971 hit Chicken Heads together with his old friend Buddy Guy and young blues star Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, and written a critically acclaimed autobiography, I Ain’t Studdin’ You: My American Blues Story.
Food available for purchase from Alligator Mike. Hailing from LaRose, LA, Alligator Mike has been cooking over a pot, usually a very large black pot, for decades on his family’s alligator farm, and for over 15 years at T Bois Blues Festival, and more recently at 100 Men Hall. Alligator Mike’s Louisiana cooking includes redfish courtbouillon all the way to his very special Cajun gumbo. Louisiana cooking is a diverse cuisine influenced by many cultures, including French, Spanish, African and Native American.

The historical 100 Men Hall, a famed stop on the Chitlin' Circuit, a Must See Venue by Rolling Stone Magazine, winner of the 2024 MS Governor’s Award for Excellence for Arts in the Community, a rare site on the MS Blues Trail, is maintained and preserved under a 501c3 nonprofit organization (Hundred Members Debating Benevolent Association, est. 1894). The Hall is supported by its membership organization 100 WOMEN DBA, as well as from the generosity of sponsors and donors.
