📍Karma House Community Wellness Center
Addiction Awareness Meditation is an original, secular practice developed by Buddhist monk Sokuzan, the founder of SokukoJi. This awareness practice arose from decades of teaching in prisons and rehabilitation settings as a way to support individuals through direct awareness, without reliance on religious structure.
This class, facilitated by Shōdō, includes:
🪷 5:30–6:00 Guided/Open Meditation
📖 6:00–6:30 Book Study (“Addiction Awareness Meditation” by Sokuzan)
This practice is not about fixing or changing who you are — it is about cultivating awareness to see the roots of your own patterns, in your own way. Everyone is welcome as they are.
Please note: Karma House is a drug- and smoke-free campus.
Led by: Shōdō —A resident monk of SokukoJi Buddhist Monastery since 2018, Shōdō received full ordination in 2020 and has been dedicated to the study and practice of awareness through daily sitting meditation and teaching.
Shōdō has led numerous meditation gatherings and classes across Michigan and beyond, sharing the simple yet profound practice of being present.
