Harper Creek Optimist Club is happy to announce
In July 1965, a discussion between Past Optimist
International President Carl Bowen and former FBI
Director J. Edgar Hoover resulted in the birth of the
Respect For Law community activity. This is the fourth
most popular Optimist activity with more than 1,500
clubs participating each year.
The Harper Creek Optimist Club (HCOC) hopes to instill a strong
respect for law in local children during The Public Safety Open House on Thursday, May 1, 2025, 5PM - 7PM.
Through the club’s Respect for Law event, the club will be grilling hot dogs, providing snacks and drinks while the kids can check out the police vehicles, enter the coloring contest, talk with officers and chat with fellow optimists.
The event will take place at Emmett Township Department of Public Safety, 617 Cliff Street, Battle Creek, MI 49014.
“We believe it is important for children to grow up with a strong belief in abiding by the law, respecting law enforcement and doing what they can to maintain peace,”
Club President Toni Gore said. “We hope that our project with local police officers to interact with the youth in our community will help in this effort.”
HCOC has been participating Respect for Law for
6 years and has been active in the community since 1959. Other programs and service projects that the Club is involved in include The Battle Creek Christmas Parade, The John Peruzze Memorial Golf Outing, The Duncan Bailey Memorial Drawdown and Jack-'o'-Lantern Jamboree.
