From sugarcane fields to shrimp boats, from bayous to backyards, Louisiana’s land and water shape every part of life here—and our way of life shapes the land and water in return. This one-day education conference invites participants to explore the complex and often personal connections between Louisiana’s environment, economy, and cultural heritage. Through engaging presentations, community storytelling, and family-friendly activities, Bayou Life will inspire reflection and action around how we can protect and honor the places we call home—especially amid ongoing threats like coastal erosion, pollution, and climate change.
Bayou Life: Connecting Culture, Industry, and the Environment in Louisiana bridges education, heritage, and environmental awareness through inclusive, place-based learning. By fostering conversation, creativity, and community, the Friends of Capitol Park Museum aim to inspire action that honors the past, acknowledges the present, and builds toward a more sustainable future.
