We are excited to promote and collaborate on this upcoming event with Red Stick Roller Derby and Wonderground BR
SUMMER SMASH: QUEER WRESTLING NIGHT
A night of playing and fighting. For Queers. By Queers.
Ages 18+
Suggested donation of $10 at the door
Pay what you can. No one turned away for lack of funds.
A portion of donations benefits Red Stick Roller Derby!
THE WRESTLING
Bring your friends and sign up to wrestle each other in games like…
Grappling
Arm wrestling
Leg wrestling
Sock wrestling
Thumb wrestling
Pool noodle fencing
Rock, paper, scissors
We encourage creative wrestling attire, even if you are not wrestling!
You sign a liability waiver, even if you are not wrestling.
Sign up to wrestle either with someone you know, or as a solo contender (we will help you find a worthy match).
Tell us your wrestling name, your reason for fighting, and your wrestling style.
Your knees stay on the ground when you are wrestling, there is no standing, punching, slapping, biting, choking, hair pulling, jewelry pulling, or hands under clothes. No picking people up and slamming them down. End the match by saying “stop”, tapping your opponent or the ground repeatedly, or 3 count pinfall.
We strongly encourage participants to test for Covid the day of the event.
We will have medics!
Consent is mandatory, enthusiastic, and actively negotiated. Inebriated people cannot consent to wrestle, and if you appear too altered to negotiate consent, it’s no hard feelings, but you will be benched! We recommend signing up early to wrestle if you want to drink later.
THE FOOD
There will be vegan jambalaya (cooked by two former vegan chefs), snacks and water available to replenish yourself!
BYOB
The food and snackies will be donation-based, pay what you can, NOTAFLOF.
THE FUNDRAISER
Donations raised through the available food items go directly to support your local roller derby team: Red Stick Roller Derby!!!
THE VIBES
There will be music, a resource/local artist table, good friends and good queer community.
Your local queer artist collective, Leur, will be accepting clothing donations for an upcoming Free Clothing Cafe. If you’ve got clothes to donate, bring ‘em!!
There will be a low sensory space available for those who need a little recharge.
While this event centers queer people, everyone is welcome, as long as they can abide by the house rules! We firmly believe that play fighting is good for the soul, strengthens our courage, deepens our bonds with each other, and is an entertaining and appropriate way to participate in your community!
