About the event

Isle Dernière: The History of Last Island and its Destruction
Last Island, a Louisiana coastal island, was a popular resort and vacation spot for wealthy Louisiana citizens in the early 1800s. In 1856, a hurricane known as the “Last Island Hurricane” demolished the island and killed hundreds of people. Special Collections welcomes local historian John Singleton to the Main Library at Goodwood on Wednesday, May 21 at 6 p.m. to discuss the history of the island and the hurricane that destroyed it.
