Join us for an evening full of positivity as we explore the opportunities there are for designers, and non designers, to make an impact through their design process and approaches towards sustainability. We will have the chance to host 3 speakers, across design disciplines such as UX & digital design and product design engineering.
1hour of networking and drinks will follow the talks.
Our first talk:
How to minimise the environmental impact of your digital service - James Chudley
It was encouraging to see GDS adding ‘[Minimise environmental impact]’ to their design principles, but it feels like sustainability is rarely a priority on real world digital projects.
We know we need to prioritise the environment, but given the complexity of projects and competing priorities where the hell do you even start?!
In this talk, I'll introduce ‘Decarbonising User Journeys’ - a pragmatic approach I've developed to help you to minimise the environmental impact of your digital services.
You learn how it works, how to do it and how it benefits people, performance, prosperity and the planet.
Our second talk:
Paul and Abby from Kinneir Dufort’s Sustainability Lab share lessons from five years of championing sustainable design in sectors from Consumer to MedTech, showing how designers can engage clients to recognise the value of an optimistic, future-focused mindset.
James Chudley ( https://jameschudley.co.uk):
James is an independent designer on a mission to reduce the environmental impact of the internet. He has spent his 27 years career working for agencies, consultancies and companies trying to make things like organisations, services, websites and apps more useful, usable and sustainable.James co-founded UXBristol, is a regular conference speaker and the author of 'Smashing UX Design’, 'Usability of Web Photos’ and ‘UX Leadership Skills’.
Paul and Abby head up the Kinneir Dufort’s Sustainability Lab, a cross-disciplinary group of designers and engineers. They will be sharing lessons from five years of championing sustainable design in sectors from Consumer to MedTech, showing how designers can engage clients to recognise the value of an optimistic, future-focused mindset.
